Man runs stop sign, hits minivan; drivers killed

Western Michigan authorities say an 84-year-old pickup driver ran a stop sign and struck a minivan, killing himself and the other driver and critically injuring the pickup driver's wife.

WGHN-FM reports that Ottawa County sheriff's Sgt. Steve Austin says the crash happened about 6:30 p.m. Monday in Wright Township, about 15 miles west-northwest of Grand Rapids.

The department says that Edward Bylsma of Coopersville was driving a pickup truck and missed a stop sign, striking the driver's side door of a minivan driven by 45-year-old Steven Robin of Conklin.

Authorities tell WOOD-TV that Bylsma wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the truck. They say he and Robin died at the scene, and 81-year-old Elizabeth Bylsma was taken to Spectrum Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids.
