Man jailed in crash that killed reserve officer

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. A 64-year-old Macomb County man has been charged in a traffic accident that killed a reserve police officer.

Gerald Lee Belcher was arrested at his home Wednesday and arraigned in Chesterfield Township District Court on operating with license suspended causing death and operating while intoxicated causing death charges.

New Baltimore officer Patrick Wisniewski was riding his motorcycle Sunday night when a car turned in front of him. The 33-year-old Wisniewski had just left nearby Selfridge Air Base where he also worked as a military police officer.

Belcher was ordered held on a $250,000 bond in the county jail.

Visitation for Wisniewski will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Harrison Township base. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Queen of Creation Catholic Church in New Baltimore.
