RAPID RIVER TOWNSHIP, Mich. Northern Michigan authorities say a 20-year-old suburban Detroit man and his female passenger were killed when he failed to stop at an intersection and pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer.

The Kalkaska County sheriff's department says the crash happened about 10 a.m. Monday in Rapid River Township, about 30 miles east-northeast of Traverse City.

Undersheriff Abraham Devol identifies those killed as Timothy J. Driscoll and 47-year-old Cheryl K. Driscoll, both of Livonia. He says 19-year-old Thomas Alkmas of Livonia was critically hurt.

Devol says the semi driver lost control after the crash and collided with a minivan. He says two people in the minivan were hospitalized in stable condition, while the truck's driver was treated and released.
