Michigan authorities say a man on the run since the 2008 slayings of his wife and two children in their suburban Detroit home is being returned this week from India to stand trial on first-degree murder charges.

Novi police say Lakshminivasa Nerusu was arrested in February in Andhra Pradesh, near Hyderabad, India.

The Oakland Press of Pontiac reports that Novi police say a police investigator and an FBI agent flew to India and are to return Saturday with Nerusu.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jayalakshmi Nerusu, the couple's 14-year-old daughter Tejasvi and their 12-year-old son Siva, were killed Oct. 13, 2008. Police checking on the family's welfare found their bludgeoned bodies two weeks later.

A day after the slayings, the then-42-year-old suspect flew from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to India.
