A man has died after dropping from a bridge into the icy Saginaw River, despite rescue attempts by multiple emergency agencies.
Mlive.com says that the Saginaw police and fire departments and Saginaw County Sheriff's Department sent crews to the Genesee Bridge about 3:30 p.m. Sunday after getting a report of a man jumping into the river.
Sheriff's Lt. Randy Pfau says a firefighter went into the water with the man and sustained hypothermia. He says dive team members couldn't deploy a boat because of ice chunks in the river, delaying the rescue.
An emergency medical team performed life-saving measures on the man and took him to St. Mary's of Michigan hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The man's name, age and hometown haven't been released.
