KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - A man charged in the death of a 1-year-old Kalamazoo-area girl who authorities say had hemorrhaging in her brain and eyes as well as alcohol and marijuana in her blood has been ordered to stand trial.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports 22-year-old Toren V. Hains of Traverse City was bound over for trial Thursday. His lawyer didn't oppose sending the case to Kalamazoo County Circuit Court.
Hains is charged with open murder, felony murder and first-degree child abuse in the December death of Zoie Grace Johnston of Oshtemo Township. An autopsy found that cause of death was head trauma.
Officials say Hains was babysitting and was the boyfriend of the child's mother. The girl died Dec. 31 at a hospital.
