MSU doctor gets AMA honor for Africa malaria work
Michigan State University professor Terrie Taylor is being honored with a 2011 American Medical Association Foundation Excellence in Medicine Award for two decades of work studying and treating malaria in Africa.
Taylor is an internal medicine professor and osteopathic physician.
The university says on Feb. 8, she'll receive the Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine at a dinner in the nation's capital.
Taylor is one of six doctors being honored by the foundation this year.
Taylor spends part of each year Malawi, working at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
Taylor and her research team recently got a $9.1 million federal grant to create new malaria prevention and control strategies in Malawi.
