PARMA, Mich. A 1960 time capsule that was thought to be destroyed in Parma has been unearthed and plans are to open it early next year.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports that the capsule had been placed in the cornerstone of a new high school that consolidated students from Parma and Spring Arbor. The plan was to open it in 2009 during celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Western School District's consolidation.

Erika Sponsler is a Western High School history teacher. She says the cornerstone that had the capsule was removed in a 2004 construction project and no one knew what happened to it.

But this summer, the cornerstone was found when a storage building was demolished.

She says the plan is to open the capsule in January.
