The spirit of giving was in the air this afternoon as nearly 450 volunteers made it their mission to help out people in the Michiana area with the United Way.
The United Way of Southwest Michigan hosted its annual Day of Action today.
Volunteers from all over Berrien and Cass counties helped families prepare for the winter months by raking leaves, cleaning gutters, and sealing windows.
It was not just individual volunteers working with United Way, teams made up of local businesses like Express-1 paired up with the organization in an effort to give back to nearly 150 thankful community members.
Michele Pellico, Campaign Coordinator of Express-1 said, “It's huge...a lot of our seniors in the area, based on physical ailments, or maybe they don't have family in the area, really need the help. So it is just a way for us to give back to the community, and helping out the seniors who are in need."
United Way is always looking for volunteers for their service events, anyone interested can contact their Southwest Michigan office.
