Authorities say a 51-year-old man was struck and killed by a freight train while kneeling on the tracks in southeastern Michigan.

The Oakland County sheriff's department says the northbound Canadian National train was unable to stop for the man in Pontiac and struck him about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Oakland Press says the Oakland County medical examiner's office identifies him as Eric Allen of Pontiac.

The sheriff's department says an autopsy is planned. The sheriff's department and railroad police are investigating.
