Kilpatrick back in court in March to talk books

A judge has told ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to return to court for a hearing on his book sales after his federal corruption trial ends.

Kilpatrick still owes the city more than $800,000 in restitution in an earlier obstruction of justice case that sent him to state prison.

Attorney Dan Hajji says Kilpatrick hasn't "received a nickel" from book sales but is challenging a state law that bars convicts from profiting from books that mention their crimes.

The state appeals court wants Wayne County Judge David Groner to re-examine the book issue and whether sales must go toward restitution. He held a very brief hearing Wednesday and told Kilpatrick and prosecutors to return March 12, after the ex-mayor's federal trial ends.

Kilpatrick resigned in 2008.
