Kettering University says it's getting $15.5 million form the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation for new lab space, a center for K-12 students, police headquarters and biology facility.

Mlive.com (http://bit.ly/TAm2VX ) says it's the largest gift the Flint-based university has received in its 93-year history.

University President Robert McMahan says the work to be done with the funds will put the school in the forefront of U.S. science, technology, engineering and math institutions.

The funds will be allocated through a series of smaller grants delivered over the next three or more years. The first grant is being awarded this spring.

Other uses of the grant include a chemical engineering lab, revised campus master plan and an upgraded coffee shop.
