The judge and attorneys involved in the manslaughter case against a Detroit tactical officer will experience firsthand the effects of a concussive grenade.
Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway agreed Friday to a trial run before she decides if jurors in the involuntary manslaughter of Officer Joseph Weekley should be subjected to the blast.
A flash-bang grenade was detonated while Weekley was inside a home during a 2010 police raid that resulted in the fatal shooting of 7-year-old Aiyana Jones. The raid was taped by an A&E network reality TV show.
Weekley faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Allison Howard, who recorded the raid, is charged with obstruction of justice and perjury.
Hathaway set an Oct. 22 trial date for Weekley and a Dec. 3 date for Howard.
