A Detroit judge has ordered her courtroom cleared and sent staff home after a bailiff observed bedbugs crawling on a man in the first row of seats.
The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/SZjBKd ) that 36th District Judge Cylenthia LaToye Miller emptied the room Thursday.
The man was accompanying a witness to a hearing before Miller. His daughter later said she knew there were bedbugs in her father's house.
Miller said the evacuation was "for everybody's well-being." Her staff was sent home after Miller was unable to move her cases to another courtroom.
A pest-control company sprays the building each quarter. Court officials say a dog also is used to sniff out bedbugs.
Earlier this year, city bus drivers claimed to have seen bed bugs on some buses.
