Federal Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and U.S. Rep. John Dingell plan to check out two public-private partnerships in southeastern Michigan.

The pair are scheduled to join local officials Wednesday for a ceremonial signing transferring donated and purchased land to the
Port of Monroe for the restoration and development of the River Raisin National Battlefield Park.

The River Raisin was the site of a battle during the War of 1812.

It formally was established as a part of the National Park System in October.

Wednesday's event marks Salazar's first visit to the site.

He and Dingell also plan later in the day to visit the Detroit International Wildlife Refuge in nearby Trenton to announce some
recent land acquisitions.
