Lawmakers, individuals and organizations advocating on behalf of immigrants in Michigan and several other states have announced plans for a march in the nation's capital.

Organizers gathered Monday at the Dearborn headquarters of the nonprofit ACCESS and say the demonstration is planned for April 10. Similar announcements were planned in six other states and Washington, D.C.

Those participating in Michigan's announcement included ACCESS Executive Director Hassan Jaber, Democratic U.S. Rep. John Conyers and United Auto Workers Vice President Cindy Estrada.

Organizers called for state and federal action but commended the efforts of a bipartisan group of U.S. senators. The lawmakers on Monday presented a new framework for overhauling the nation's immigration laws, including a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants already here.
