WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The National Weather Service in White Lake Township has issued an ice storm warning for the Flint area and other parts of Genesee County.

Meteorologist Dan Thompson says a quarter-inch to a half-inch of ice may accumulate Saturday afternoon from freezing rain that's expected to roll through parts of mid-Michigan.

Thompson says temperatures "should be right around freezing or a little below" and "just one or two degrees can play a big difference in how ice accumulates."

Iced-over tree branches also could fall on power lines and result in outages.

Freezing rain forced the closure of scores of schools Friday across parts of Michigan.

The rainy, cold weather is part of a system extending from the Southern Plains to the Upper Midwest. The weather system is moving to the Northeast.
