Housing, homelessness funds headed to Detroit area

Macomb County's Clinton Township will get more than $487,000 in federal funds to improve affordable housing.

The money was announced Monday and is part of $4.2 million in Community Development Block Grants, Emergency Shelter Grants and a program expanding the supply of affordable housing for low-income families in southeastern Michigan.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grants were announced Monday.

Macomb County will receive $1.6 million in block grants and $1.1 million in HOME Program funding.

Farmington Hills in Oakland County will get a $344,000 grant. A $361,000 grant is headed to Waterford Township, also in Oakland County.

Wayne County's Livonia will get nearly $283,000.
