A museum in southwestern Michigan that celebrates Ford Motor Co.'s Model A has held a grand opening ceremony.

The 12,000-square-foot Model A Ford Museum is fashioned after a Ford dealership from 1928. It sits on the Gilmore Car Museum campus in Hickory Corners, about 115 miles west of Detroit.

Marketing director Jay Follis calls it the world's largest public museum dedicated to the Model A.

The grand opening took place on Saturday.

Stan Johnson is the president of the Model A Ford Foundation Inc. He says the Model A Ford "has become an icon of Americana, and the museum will preserve the car and the era."

The Model A Ford Foundation raised more than $1 million for the project.
