Governor Rick Snyder is requesting federal disaster assistance for Michigan fruit farmers who are facing substantial crop losses because of extreme weather conditions that caused more than $223 million in damage.

March's summerlike temperatures and April's frosts all but wiped out the state's tart cherry crop. The one-two punch also caused major damage to sweet cherries, apples, pears and peaches.
