Gov. Rick Snyder has signed legislation authorizing nearly $38 million in Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grants to support 99 recreation and land acquisition projects.
The projects were recommended by the Trust Fund's board. Snyder says they'll help "preserve the places that make Michigan such a special place to live, work and play."
Snyder signed the legislation Wednesday. Project costs total $65 million when matching funds are included.
MLive.com reports big-ticket items include $3 million to buy 440 acres on Harsens Island in Lake St. Clair; $3 million to buy 2,000 acres in southern Jackson and Washtenaw counties for a new recreation area; and $2.9 million to buy more than 100 acres of land in the Clay Cliffs Natural area in Leelanau County.
