A funeral is planned Thursday for a 25-year-old Army National Guard soldier from suburban Detroit who was killed in combat in Afghanistan.
Authorities say that Spt. Kyle McClain of Macomb County's Shelby Township Hills died Aug. 1 when an improvised explosive device went off in Salim Aka, Afghanistan.
He was part of an engineering company based in Kalamazoo, and four other unit members were seriously hurt in the blast.
His funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Rochester Hills.
Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Wednesday at Potere-Modetz Funeral Home in Rochester. The home says McClain will be buried at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek.
