A memorial to Michigan soldiers, sailors and airmen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since the 9/11 terror attacks is being sculpted in a West Michigan studio, despite low donations.
The Grand Rapids Press reports Saturday that only $50,000 of about $400,000 needed for the Michigan Fallen Warrior Memorial has been raised.
Mic Carlson is sculpting the bronze memorial which features three soldiers. The newspaper reports that he is getting paid as the money comes in.
If enough is raised, the memorial may be erected at a National Guard Armory in Grand Rapids.
Bob and Donna Roush of Middlesex believe the memorial will allow the memory of their son, Nick, and others to live on.
Army Cpl. Nicholas Roush died in 2009 in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.
