After a crash Friday morning in Cass County, a Dowagiac man remains in a drug-induced coma.

Police say Edward Schoff, 57, was driving his pickup truck near the intersection of Dailey and Beeson Rd. in LaGrange Twp. when his truck left the road and struck a tree.

Schoff had to be extricated from the truck and airlifted to a hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment. Officials say Schoff was not wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred.

Those who know him well tell NewsCenter 16 Schoff broke both of his legs and both of his arms, in addition to breaking 10 ribs. It is believed that Schoff had a diabetic attack while driving, and that attack was a factor in why he drove off the roadway.
