WARREN, Mich. (AP) - Firefighters wearing biohazard suits have rescued a bed-ridden, roughly 500-pound woman from a filthy, bug-infested apartment in suburban Detroit.
The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press report the 41-year-old Warren woman was taken to a hospital Tuesday and remained hospitalized Wednesday in intensive care. The fire department responded following a call from the woman's husband, who told them she needed medical attention.
Authorities say the woman had bedsores and was found in her own waste.
Fire Commissioner Skip McAdams said the woman had a broken hip and later became bed-ridden. Her name wasn't released
Four children in the apartment were placed with a relative who lives nearby.
The case was to be brought to the Macomb County prosecutor's office to determine whether charges will be filed.
