Lightning may not strike twice, but fires seem to for one South Haven family. In the last five years, the family has dealt with three separate house fires.
That's according to our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium.
South Haven firefighters were called to the 500 block of Green St. in response to a house fire.
Crews were sent to the scene on Friday around 4 p.m.
Arriving on scene, they found flames coming from a basement apartment. The fire was confined into the unit's bedroom and quickly put out before it could spread to the 11 remaining units.
Pamela Williams, her husband, and three children rented the apartment.
They weren't home at the time of the blaze.
This also is the third house fire in the past five years for the family. The house they rented on Phoenix St. in South Bend caughter fire, as well as another one they rented in nearby Casco Township.
Williams said her family quickly learned after the first fire to invest in renters insurance.
As for their current situation, it's unclear if they'll be able to return to their apartment.
The Red Cross is helping the family out for now.
