Few of the Michigan's 17 U.S. Senate and House members besides Republican Bill Huizenga are holding town hall meetings open to all their constituents over the August recess.
They're not alone. Despite the recent fight over the debt ceiling, growing fears about the strength of the economy and voter displeasure with Washington, many congressional members nationwide are finding more controlled ways to meet with voters.
Some are leery of wading into repeats of the heated confrontations at 2010 town hall meetings.
Huizenga acknowledges town hall meetings can grow testy. But he says they're still a good way to help constituents understand his views and what's happening in Washington.
He says voters like the chance to talk to their elected officials face to face.
