PONTIAC, Mich. The father of a 16-month-old boy who died after he was left inside a car in suburban Detroit has been formally charged with child abuse.

Henry Ogene was arraigned Saturday in Pontiac's 50th District Court on a charge of child abuse-leaving a child in a vehicle resulting in death. Authorities say he must surrender his passport if he posts a $5,000 bond.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of Odeshi Ogene's death was hyperthermia.

Undersheriff Mike McCabe says he doesn't know if Henry Ogene has an attorney.

The sheriff's department says the child was found Thursday and pronounced dead at a hospital. Temperatures in the Detroit area that day reached about 80 degrees.
