The Michigan father of an Army soldier says he's angry about a promotion ceremony in which his son was struck with a wooden mallet and seriously injured.

Ken Roach of Battle Creek tells WWMT-TV (http://bit.ly/O1EpV5 ) that Sgt. Phillip Roach was hurt April 4 at Fort Bragg, N.C., during what the Army called an "unauthorized" event. Roach says his son suffered a seizure and head injury, and was hospitalized.

Video obtained by WWMT shows Roach stumbling after being struck, then falling after shaking the hand of the mallet-wielding soldier.

The father says a letter from the Army calls the incident "hazing" and the soldier responsible was "reprimanded."

The Associated Press made unsuccessful attempts Friday to reach Ken Roach at phone listings under his name.

Fort Bragg officials didn't immediately return messages.
