Ex-officer gets 1-5 years in sex-misconduct case
An ex-suburban Detroit police officer acquitted of sexually assaulting a woman involved in a domestic violence call has been sentenced to one to five years in prison for misconduct.
Emmanuel Paravas was charged last year with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, misconduct in office and neglect of duty.
On May 21, a jury acquitted the ex-Southgate police officer of sex assault and neglect, convicting him of misconduct. Wayne County Circuit Judge Annette Berry sentenced him Thursday.
Prosecutors say Paravas answered a Feb. 9, 2012, domestic violence call involving the woman and her husband. They say the officer took the woman to a hotel for safety but later returned and had sexual contact with her.
The Associated Press left phone and email requests Thursday for comment from defense lawyer Michael Rataj.
