DETROIT A judge has sentenced a former aide to Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano to a year and a day in federal prison after pleading guilty to bribery.
David Edwards was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court. The former deputy director of the county's information technology department admitted accepting $13,000 in cash from a private contractor between 2009 and 2011.
As part of his May plea agreement, he agreed to cooperate with federal authorities.
Edwards is one of several former members of the Ficano administration to face federal corruption charges. Ficano has denied any wrongdoing.
Authorities began investigating county government after news broke that a senior official was getting a $200,000 severance to become airport chief. That deal eventually was dropped.
