Elkhart may tap rainy day fund to cover school expenses

ELKHART Elkhart schools may be dipping into their rainy day fund to cover expenses this school year.

The Elkhart Truth reports that the option was presented to the school board at Tuesday night's meeting because 90 percent of the district's general fund will go to employee salaries this year.

The big problem for Elkhart is that while the number of teachers and staff has remained the same over the past few years, the number of students is decreasing. That means they receive less money from the state.
