A drunken driver who killed three people in a crash in southwestern Michigan expressed remorse as he was sentenced to at least 19 ½ years in prison.
A Van Buren County judge followed the plea deal worked out by a prosecutor and David Johnson, whose blood-alcohol level was four times the legal limit in the crash last fall.
Johnson broke down in court Friday after telling the judge "there's no way I can pay it back." He says he's truly sorry. The victims were 24-year-old Brittney King of Bangor and two young sisters, Kandice and Cassadi Berryhill of South Haven.
The girls' father, Justin Berryhill, says he won't forgive Johnson because that might suggest an acceptance of what happened. Berryhill survived the crash.
