Nearly two years after Flint was terrorized by a series of mysterious stabbings, an Israeli-born drifter goes to trial Tuesday in the first murder case to come from the attacks.
In the summer of 2010, as many as 14 people were stabbed in the area north of Detroit, five of them fatally.
Lawyers for Elias Abuelazam acknowledge they will have a difficult time fighting the evidence, which includes the victim's DNA in dried blood discovered in the defendant's SUV and in his luggage.
The 35-year-old Abuelazam is a native of Israel who has permanent resident status in the United States. He is charged with three murders and six attempted murders. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
