Divers have recovered the body of a 16-year-old boy who disappeared in a strong rip current and drowned while swimming at a beach in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula.
Leelanau County Sheriff officials confirmed the body of Brian Paul Rolston of Lake Leelanau had been located in the water on Friday.
Rolston was swimming Thursday near shore at Van's Beach in Leland when he was swept away. A friend entered the water to offer aid, but was forced back by the current.
The Leelanau County sheriff's marine patrol, area fire department rescue teams and the U.S. Coast guard searched Thursday for the boy until it became too dark.
The search resumed Friday around the beach, located about 20 miles northwest of Traverse City.
