Detroit's new CFO takes reins; a 'huge job'
Detroit's new chief financial officer says a goal is to bring the city's computer system into the "21st century."
Jack Martin tells The Detroit News (http://bit.ly/KKvva6) he has a "huge job" that has "no end to the challenges." He says Detroit will stay out of bankruptcy but it must stop spending money if there's no future benefit.
Martin hopes he can persuade President Barack Obama's administration to send people to Detroit to help at no cost. The 71-year-old Martin is a Detroit-area accountant who worked in Washington for presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush.
Martin was appointed earlier this month as part of an unprecedented financial agreement between Detroit and the state. He was most recently the emergency manager in charge of Highland Park schools.
