Detroit neighborhood weathers the storm

Residents of Jefferson East say the proximity to the Detroit River has helped keep the east side neighborhood relatively stable during the city's tough economic times.

Paulette Foster has lived 25 years in Jefferson East and says, overall, home values have dipped less there than some other parts of Detroit.

The neighborhood is home to wood and brick two-story homes, boat houses, canals, marinas and high-end condos.

Milwaukee City Development Commissioner Rocky Marcoux says that with good planning, residential property values near waterfronts can be higher than other parts of a city.
