DETROIT (AP) Police have conducted the third mass arrest operation in Detroit in recent weeks.
Authorities say about 300 Detroit police, county deputies, federal agents and others swarmed a west side neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
"Operation Mistletoe" targets drug houses, dealers and people wanted for parole and probation violations, weapons charges, robberies, home invasions and assaults.
Detroit police say most of the 27 shootings in the area had some link to the drug trade. They say officers made at least 37 arrests Tuesday.
Officers also passed out donated food packages and toys to homes in the area. Police Chief James Craig says it's the department's way of saying the operation "should have been done years ago."
Raids also were made on Nov. 15 and Dec. 3 at two east side apartment complexes.
