Detroit police say a 17-year-old boy was killed when he and three other youths started shooting at a 50-year-old man sitting in his car at a shopping center and the target returned fire.
Sgt. Alan Quinn tells the Detroit Free Press (http://on.freep.com/QiKHP6 ) the shooting happened Saturday night at Grandland Shopping Center on the city's west side.
Quinn says the 50-year-old has a license for the handgun and says the youths were approaching him to try to rob him about 8:40 p.m.
The sergeant says the 17-year-old died at the scene, and his three companions ran off.
Quinn says police have questioned the man. The identities of those involved weren't immediately released.
