Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has suspended police Chief Ralph Godbee during an investigation of unspecified allegations against him.

Bing said in a statement Tuesday that he took the action "after hearing of the allegations regarding Chief Godbee."

The mayor says he placed Godbee "on a 30-day suspension pending a full and thorough investigation of this matter."

Bing says Assistant Chief Chester Logan will assume Godbee's responsibilities during the suspension.
