Detroit Archbishop Allen Vigneron will lead an evening prayer service to mark the selection of a new pope.

The 1.3 million-member Archdiocese of Detroit says Vigneron will preside at a vespers service at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.

The archdiocese says Vigneron will issue a statement before the service and will hold a news conference afterward.

The identity of the new pope will be revealed when he appears at the Vatican on Wednesday.

Cardinals elected the new pope Wednesday to lead the world's 1.2 billion Catholics. Pope Benedict XVI resigned last month.
