Registration is ending for those who want to be among the 500 participants in the annual Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Run.
The governor's office, the Michigan Fitness Foundation and the Mackinac Bridge Authority are organizing the five-mile run across the span that connects St. Ignace in the Upper Peninsula and Mackinaw City in the Lower Peninsula.
The deadline is Thursday to enter the state's lottery, which will be held in June.
Participants must be at least 18 years old on Sept. 3, a Michigan resident and have participated in an event endorsed by the Michigan Fitness Foundation.
The Bridge Run was limited to 400 participants in previous years. But this year the number was increased as part of an effort by organizers to further illustrate the importance of physical activity.
