Authorities are searching a lake in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula for a 41-year-old man who disappeared after jumping into the water to rescue his 2-year-old son who fell from a boat.

The Wexford County sheriff's department says the search was ongoing Monday in Lake Mitchell near Cadillac.

WWTV-WWUP and the Cadillac News identify the man who disappeared Friday as Kenneth Coty. He's from Saginaw County's Lakefield Township, near Merrill.

Authorities say Coty pushed his son back into the boat, then disappeared underwater. Officials say Coty's 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son also were in the boat.

The lake straddles the Cherry Grove-Selma Township line, just west of Cadillac and about 35 miles southeast of Traverse City.

Several agencies have aided the search, with help from aircraft and police dogs.
