A 59-year-old southeast Michigan woman was killed after a pickup truck being chased by police passed through a red light and slammed into her car.

The Monroe Evening News reports that Diana Cupp was exiting a grocery store parking lot early Tuesday afternoon when her car was hit.

The pickup driver was hurt in the crash. He and a female passenger were in police custody.

Monroe City police said in a release that an officer in a marked patrol car initiated the chase with lights and siren on about 12:17 p.m. Tuesday after the pickup sped past him.

Police said the driver of the pickup refused to stop and drove recklessly and at excessive speeds.

The crash is being investigated by Monroe City Police and state police.
