Police in Kalamazoo say they hope a decorative vehicle plate that quotes a song by Hank Williams Jr. found at the scene of a hit-and-run accident will lead them to the driver who critically injured a pedestrian.

Kalamazoo public safety Lt. Brad Misner says the 20-year-old man was hit about 1 a.m. Sunday and was in critical condition at Bronson Hospital.

Misner says the driver fled but left behind a broken decorative vanity plate and a partial bug shield. The plate appears to say, "A country boy can survive," a line from Williams' song of the same name.

Misner says the vehicle should have significant front-edge damage.

Police have released a photo of the plate and are asking for anyone recognizing it to contact them.
