Voters are choosing Democratic nominees for the U.S. House in two hotly contested races.
Rep. John Conyers of Detroit is seeking the Democratic nomination for a 25th term on Tuesday. Fellow Reps. Gary Peters and Hansen Clarke are competing in another Detroit-area district.
Both districts were redrawn after Michigan lost a congressional seat following the 2010 census. Both have majority-black populations but include more suburban territory than Detroit's previous districts.
Meanwhile, Republicans are choosing a nominee in the district formerly represented by Thad McCotter, who resigned last month after failing to produce enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot.
In southwestern Michigan, veteran Rep. Fred Upton has a rematch with Republican challenger Jack Hoogendyk.
