Community groups, residents protest city violence

Several community organizations are planning to honor victims of violence in Detroit with a march and rally.

The "take back our streets" march is scheduled to begin at noon Saturday at the Church of the Messiah on Detroit's east side.

The march follows an opening program at the church. Victims of violence in Detroit will be remembered following the march.

Church of the Messiah Housing Corp., the Villages Community Development Corp., East Jefferson Corridor Collaborative, Genesis Hope Community Development Corp. and Citizens United For Safety are expected to take part in the program.
