The First Church of God in St. Joseph hosted it's second Special Needs Prom Saturday night.
The event had over 200 attendees, up from the previous prom 3 years ago.
To make it all happen, the community stepped forward with monetary donations as well as food, red carpets and prizes.
Hollywood was the theme of the prom, and organizers say the yearlong effort was well worth it.
"There's so much that goes into it, leading up to it, that it's kind of sometimes I have a hard time really remembering what the whole evening is about. But when you get here and just standing there watching them come up the red carpet, and tonight there were guests that were here last time that remembered me, and the hugs. So, tonight is when I get to really realize what this event means for our guests," said Jenny Fry, the community outreach director at First Church of God.
She continues," the guests have been really excited, especially the ones that came 3 years ago. They've been talking about it ever since the last one. So there's been a lot of excitement because they know what to expect," said Fry.
The First Church of God hopes to put on the event for years to come.
