A rally has been held in Detroit urging Congress to do more in support of home ownership.
Organizers say Friday's event at Gardenview Estates on the city's west side was one of seven planned this year across the country.
They say tax, legislative and regulatory policies being considered by lawmakers in Washington D.C. would scale back or eliminate the mortgage interest deduction, making it difficult for many to obtain home mortgages and loans for small businesses.
The Rally was hosted by the Building Industry Association of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan Association of Home Builders and the National Association of Homebuilders.
Gardenview Estates is a mixed-use development on Detroit's west side. The site once housed a housing project.
More homes and retail are planned for the site.
