NILES Formal charges have been filed in an animal abuse case out of Niles last week.

The Herald Palladium reports that brothers Ronald and Donald Wheeler have been charged for neglecting and abusing animals at their home in the 900 block of 14th Street.

Last week, officers rescued a dog and 11 cats, plus found two dead cats on the property. They had to wear haz-mat suits because of the trash and stench from animal feces.

The brothers are free on bond until preliminary hearings next week. They face up to four years in prison.
